My second story is about love and loss.

I was lucky – I found what I loved to do early in life. Woz and I started Apple in my parents garage when I was 20. We worked hard, and in 10 years Apple had grown from just the two of us in a garage into a $2 billion company with over 4000 employees. We had just released our finest creation – the Macintosh – a year earlier, and I had just turned 30. And then I got fired. How can you get fired from a company you started? Well, as Apple grew we hired someone who I thought was very talented to run the company with me, and for the first year or so things went well. But then our visions of the future began to diverge and eventually we had a falling out. When we did, our Board of Directors sided with him. So at 30 I was out. And very publicly out. What had been the focus of my entire adult life was gone, and it was devastating.

I really didn’t know what to do for a few months. I felt that I had let the previous generation of entrepreneurs down – that I had dropped the baton as it was being passed to me. I met with David Packard and Bob Noyce and tried to apologize for screwing up so badly. I was a very public failure, and I even thought about running away from the valley. But something slowly began to dawn on me – I still loved what I did. The turn of events at Apple had not changed that one bit. I had been rejected, but I was still in love. And so I decided to start over.

I didn’t see it then, but it turned out that getting fired from Apple was the best thing that could have ever happened to me. The heaviness of being successful was replaced by the lightness of being a beginner again, less sure about everything. It freed me to enter one of the most creative periods of my life.

During the next five years, I started a company named NeXT, another company named Pixar, and fell in love with an amazing woman who would become my wife. Pixar went on to create the worlds first computer animated feature film, Toy Story, and is now the most successful animation studio in the world. In a remarkable turn of events, Apple bought NeXT, I retuned to Apple, and the technology we developed at NeXT is at the heart of Apple’s current renaissance. And Laurene and I have a wonderful family together.

I’m pretty sure none of this would have happened if I hadn’t been fired from Apple. It was awful tasting medicine, but I guess the patient needed it. Sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick. Don’t lose faith. I’m convinced that the only thing that kept me going was that I loved what I did. You’ve got to find what you love. And that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don’t settle.

我可以非常肯定,如果我不被Apple开除的话, 这其中一件事情也不会发生的。这个良药的味道实在是太苦了,但是我想病人需要这个药。有些时候, 生活会拿起一块砖头向你的脑袋上猛拍一下。不要失去信心。我很清楚唯一使我一直走下去的，就是我做的事情令我无比钟爱。你需要去找到你所爱的东西。对于工作是如此, 对于你的爱人也是如此。你的工作将会占据生活中很大的一部分。你只有相信自己所做的是伟大的工作, 你才能怡然自得。如果你现在还没有找到, 那么继续找、不要停下来、全心全意的去找, 当你找到的时候你就会知道的。就像任何真诚的关系, 随着岁月的流逝只会越来越紧密。所以继续找，直到你找到它，不要停下来！

My dog

Buster（狗狗的名字，真实的意思是订头切断机） loves to eat. And he loves to eat our food. When Daddy or Mommy is cooking（做饭）, he loves to stand right there in the kitchen（厨房）. He has been told（告诉，tell的过去时） he is not supposed（假设） to eat anything from the kitchen counter(柜台), but he does not always do what he is told.

One time when my daddy was cutting up a big piece of steak（牛排）, Buster was standing there watching. When Daddy turned around to get a plate, Buster quickly（迅速） grabbed（抢劫，劫掠） the piece of steak with his big mouth and ran to the living room（卧室）. By the time Daddy got to him, the piece of steak was almost（几乎） all gone. Daddy was very upset（翻到） with him. Buster just looked at Daddy with his guilty（有罪的） eyes. Buster did not get any dinner that night because Daddy said he ate Daddy’s dinner. So I shared（分享） my piece of steak with Daddy that night.

巴斯特喜欢吃，它尤其喜欢吃我们的食物，当爸爸或者妈妈做饭的时候，它喜欢站在厨房那儿。它总是告诉自己不应该去吃厨房的任何东西，但是它总是不能做到。

一次，当我爸爸正在切一大块牛排，巴斯特站在那里看着，当爸爸转身去拿盘子的时候，巴斯特飞速的用它的大嘴抢劫了一块牛排并跑去了卧室。爸爸随后抓住了它，但是牛排已经几乎被吃光。爸爸被它气翻了，巴斯特用它犯了错误的眼神看着爸爸。那天晚上，巴斯特不能吃任何食物因为它吃掉了爸爸的晚餐。所以那天晚上我把我的牛排和爸爸一起分享了。
